From the Counselor’s Desk: August 20, 2009 Issue 1 Welcome back! Your senior year will pass very quickly. It is a time of excitement, anxiety, and decisions. You will be very busy. There is a lot of dates and information to pass along to you. Please remember to check your box often; I can communicate with all of you this way without having to call special meetings. The purpose of the senior correspondence letters is to keep you and your parents informed of important and approaching dates that may be of importance to you. I will also make you aware of any scholarship opportunities that I receive in my office. Please check your mail box at least every couple of weeks, and even more frequently as graduation approaches. I will do my best to help you and keep you informed, but it is up to you to pick up correspondence letters from your mail box and ask questions about anything for which you are uncertain. I am here to help make your senior year as successful as possible, but I cannot help if I do not know that there is a question or concern that needs to be addressed. · If you have a question about your number of credits to graduate, please see me. If you have been at Tuttle High School for all four years you need 30 credits to graduate. If you transferred from another school district then your credit requirements will vary. · If you are short on credits, see me immediately, so that I can get you the information for distance learning education that are completed online or night school. Do not wait until spring to take care of this. · The first Oklahoma ACT test is October 24; the deadline to register is September 12th. Registration information is available against the west wall in my office. Do not wait until next June to take the test if you are planning to apply for scholarships. I would strongly suggest taking it in October as some awards and scholarships have an early registration date and require ACT scores. · If you are planning to play a NCAA or Division One sport make sure you register with the NCAA and have your ACT test scores sent directly to them, by using the college school code 9999. To register with the NCAA go to: ncaaclearinghouse.net · Chad Cargill will be here September 1st to offer an ACT prep class. This cost this year is $30.00. It will be from 8:15 – 11:15 am in the library. If you have an Indian card and would like to participate, please let me know. Title VII will pay for the cost of the class. Registration deadline is August 27th. Lunch will be provided following the class. · Are you looking for ways to add community service to your resume or college application? Do not forget that Mrs. Maxey is looking for volunteers for the after school tutoring program. The program is conducted at the elementary school each Tuesday and Thursday after school until 4:30 pm. Please see me to sign up. You do not have to commit to every Tuesday and Thursday or even every week, you can set up a schedule that is convenient with Mrs. Maxey. · Look for the “Financial Aid Checklist” in your box for resources in regards to financial planning and scholarship web sites. I am looking forward to working with you this year. Have a great and successful year. If you believe it in your heart, you can obtain your goals. Your counselor,
