Counselor's Corner
From the Counselor’s Desk:
November 30, 2009 Issue
6
If you are uncertain about the number of credits you
have to graduate, please make an appointment to see me.
I will be available this week, but I will be administering EOI
tests next week. If you are
unable to see me this week, please contact Terry or Sara and they can
let me know that you need an appointment and I will get to you as soon
as possible. If you have
attended Tuttle High School all four years you will need 30 credits to
graduate. If you transferred
from another school district your credit requirements will be different.
Over the holidays, you may want to work on your
personal resume to submit to colleges of interest or for future
employment. It helps having
everything in one location to refer to.
You may also want to plan a college visit if you are uncertain
about the campus you would like to attend.
You must have your college day paper signed by Mr. Odam or Mr.
Ragsdale prior to taking your college day.
Make sure the college that you are interested in provides the
degree that you are interested in pursuing.
If you have selected a college be sure to check their website for
scholarship opportunities. Many
colleges have you apply for their scholarships online and have early
deadlines in February and March, so check those websites.

Just
a note of advice: Be aware
of possible scholarship scams. There
are some individuals that say they can get you scholarship dollars and
charge you a fee. There is
no reason to pay someone to find you scholarship dollars.
You can do the work yourself; it just takes a little time on your
behalf. Utilize the websites
and other resources that you receive from me. Some of these scams end up
soliciting student loans, so be careful.
·
If
you are planning to play a NCAA or Division One sport make sure you
register with the NCAA and have your ACT test scores sent directly to
them, by using the college school code 9999.
To register with the NCAA go to:
ncaaclearinghouse.net
·
If you are interested in attending OU I have an email full of information
that I can forward to you with lots of helpful dates.

IMPORTANT
NOTICE THAT EFFECTS CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT:
Any
con-current college level course will be transcripted to your high
school transcript according to Senate Bill 290.
You will be given a high school credit for the course work.
Courses will be aligned with Tuttle High School course weight
identification with the exception of U.S. Government for this current
school year only. For this
current school year college level government will still be recognized as
a 5.0 class, after this year it will be weighted as a 4.0 class.
Only courses that parallel as a weighted course at Tuttle High
School will be granted a weighted status (5.0).
For example: College Algebra would parallel Algebra III and would
be considered a weighted course, while Biology I would be figured on a
non-weighted scale (4.0).
